Intermediate OrchestraThe Intermediate Orchestra is the place for any student who has gotten a taste or Beginning Orchestra or Instrumental Exploration and would like to keep learning. Students will not only learn how to master the technique of an instrument but also how to read, understand, and interpret music. The Intermediate Orchestra is a great second step!
Students will learn from an orchestral method book, String Basics, Book 2. The Intermediate Orchestra student will be responsible for attending all rehearsals during school and two concerts a semester that occur after school in the evening. These are graded events. The evaluation of each student will be based on their positive class participation, attendance, active engagement in activities, practice habits, and group interaction. The other part of their evaluation will be on their knowledge of their instrument and music and their performance ability. The most important part of the beginning student's grade will be their classroom participation. The following instruments will be taught in Intermediate Orchestra: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass. The orchestra student must have at all times in class a pencil (not a pen), music, and their instrument. Intermediate Orchestra students are required for each concert to wear: a white dress shirt with a modest neckline, long black pants or a long black skirt, black socks or stockings, and black dress shoes. |
